Historic Homes & Garden Tour Profile: Spencer Ave. Sears Home

When Steve Kelly decided to move to New Bern from Morehead City in 2006, he knew he wanted to live on Spencer Avenue amidst other musical and artistic neighbors. Steve invites you to come see his home and the Ghent neighborhood he loves.

In 2013, after a long courtship with this home, Steve bought it. This Sears home is one of the 370 designs the company sold from 1908 to the early 1940s. The brackets on the home are one indication of a Sears home.

You’ll see new colors on the walls, but aside from this Steve has changed little in the part you’ll be touring. Look for the oak table, bought secondhand a century ago by his parents, that became his father’s desk but is now used for games.

Come see Steve’s home and three others on Spencer Avenue in the historic Ghent neighborhood on April 8 & 9. Tickets at New Bern Historical Society.
