Phase II of the Union Station restoration project was completed earlier this year. All windows and exterior doors on the ground were repaired and painted, interior trim was repaired or reproduced, and all interior woodwork was painted.
Work will be starting this fall on the second floor once we are past hurricane season and it cools off a bit. There are 11 rooms on the second floor and the current plan is to work on one room at a time to repair windows, clean up and repair the interior walls, wood floors, and prime the walls.
The City of New Bern and the Foundation are also working with North Carolina Railroad to develop a business plan for future use of the building.
