Art as Preservation: Paint the 6 Sisters in Plein Air

Join the New Bern Preservation Foundation, Art House Art Studio & The Old Pinnix for Art as Preservation, an afternoon of art, architecture, and preservation at New Bern’s 6 Sisters.

Paint a picture of the 6 Sisters from the setting where they stand! Artists will work en plein air, capturing their own artistic interpretation of the houses and surrounding streetscape. Art supplies will be provided by Art House Art Studio, or bring your own.

Artists of all experience levels are welcome, from ages 9 to 99. Whether you’re an experienced plein air painter, a young artist trying it for the first time, or simply want to spend an afternoon drawing or painting, come join us.

As you create your artwork, take a closer look at these homes and learn why the 6 Sisters are an important part of New Bern’s preservation story. Built around 1923–24 following the Great Fire of 1922, the six nearly identical houses on Pasteur Street are now being preserved and given new opportunities for their next owners.

Two of the 6 Sisters, 855 and 857 Pasteur St., are currently for sale. This event is a chance to see the homes up close and imagine the possibilities for these houses while helping preserve their place in New Bern’s history.

Paint, Explore & Toast the 6 Sisters

After viewing the artwork and houses, head over to The Old Pinnix to enjoy signature 6 Sister toasts and drinks and continue the afternoon with fellow artists, preservation supporters, and neighbors.
